Director's Message

Thank you so much for visiting this site. I hope that my words help to give you a better understanding of the Rankin Cancer Run. I will be forever grateful for all the support and kindness, from so many.

I was a volunteer run director (and worked with a very special committee of six volunteers) for a national organization from 1999-2004. During those years, I was made aware of the tremendous need that we have here in our own region to help with funding all cancer related areas. I had the privilege of listening to thoughts shared by those touched by cancer. I wondered (and worried) about how I might possibly be able to do more to help our community in some way.

I shared an idea of starting my own event with my committee in 2004 - as wild as that must have sounded. I was so very blessed to have all of them join with me and then we faced our first major challenge. We needed a lead sponsor for our new event.

I made one phone call on the morning of October 6th 2004 that changed my life. I asked Rankin Construction here in Niagara, if they would be our title sponsor for the run/walk. Their immediate commitment to our cause, made a hope and dream come true. May Tom Rankin, his family, and his company be richly blessed for all the endless good that they continue to do, for so many. It is because of the tremendous heart and spirit of our community members that our event happens.

Our run philosophy is very simple. We raise funds and then give all these funds back to our region. The money raised will always remain in Niagara. Your questions, ideas, and thoughts are always welcome.

We would be so grateful to have you join us in May, for a special morning, where we honour, remember, and celebrate.
